Can I Deduct Business Rides On Apps Such As Uber, Bolt or Lyft?
Yes, trips for business reasons are deductible. However, you need to get a proper invoice from the ridesharing app, not just a trip summary or trip receipt.
Some providers such as Bolt will give you an invoice right away, but others such as Uber or Lyft will only give you a summary with the cost of the trip. That is not a valid invoice.
To get proper invoices, you need to open a Business account for your business with these providers. Even when using Bolt, we recommend you to open a business account too to get proper invoices.
How do you open a business account? It is easy. Here you can find the instructions for Uber, and the same general principles will apply for Lyft or Bolt. Once you have the business account, you will be able to get proper invoices for your company that will be accepted by our accounting department.
