How to Deregister as a Self-Employed (Autónomo) in Spain

1️⃣ Access the Social Security portal

Go to the official site of the Social Security Office, or alternatively, search on Google:

“Baja autónomo Seguridad Social”

The first result should take you directly to the correct section.

2️⃣ Click on “Solicitar baja” (Request deregistration)

Once inside the portal, click the “Solicitar baja” button.

3️⃣ Log in using a valid digital identification method

You will need a valid digital identification method.

Companio recommends:

  • Digital Certificate
  • SMS verification

Both are secure and accepted methods.

4️⃣ Select the reason for deregistration

In most cases, you should select:

👉 “Cese de actividad” (End of activity)

5️⃣ Set the effective date

Choose the date on which you want the deregistration to take effect.

Typically:

👉 The same day you are completing the process. You won't be able to invoice anymore from that date.

6️⃣ Choose the contribution end date

We recommend selecting:

👉 “Cotizar hasta la fecha de fin de actividad”

(Contribute until the end date of activity)

This helps avoid unnecessary additional Social Security charges.

7️⃣ Confirm your IAE code

Select the IAE code corresponding to your activity.

In most cases:

  • It will already be pre-filled.
  • You just need to confirm it.

8️⃣ Review and confirm

Review all the information carefully.

Click “Confirmar”.

Your deregistration will be processed immediately.

📄 Important documentation

After completing the process:

  • The system will automatically generate official documents.
  • Please download and send these documents to us.
  • [For the Off-boarding process] Upload them to your Companio dashboard in the corresponding section so we can properly complete your off-boarding process.
