How Do I Connect My Kraken Account to Companio?

To connect your Kraken account to the Companio Dashboard, you first need to create an API Key and API Secret in Kraken. These credentials allow Companio to retrieve the information needed for your accounting.
Follow the steps below to create the API credentials in Kraken and connect your account to Companio.

Part 1: Create Your API Key and API Secret in Kraken

Log in to your Kraken account.

1. Click your Profile icon and select Account.

2. From the Settings menu, open Connections & API.

3. Under API Keys, click Create API Key.

Kraken may redirect you to Kraken Pro. If prompted, click Go to Kraken Pro 

4. Once redirected, remain on the Connections & API page

5. Under Spot Trading API, click Create API Key.
6. Enter a name for the API key.
7. Enable the following permissions:
8. • Query
   • Query Open Orders & Trades
   • Query Closed Orders & Trades
   • Query Ledger Entries
8. Do not change any other settings, then click Generate Key.

1. Kraken will generate:
2. • API Key
   • Private Key (API Secret)

Important: Save both keys before closing the window. For security reasons, Kraken will not display the complete API Secret again after the modal has been closed.

These credentials can then be used to connect your Kraken account to the Companio Dashboard:

Part 2: Connect Kraken to the Companio Dashboard

1. In your Companio dashboard, go to Financials → Banks.
2. Click "Connect existing account" (or navigate to the bank connection page).
3. On the "Connect your bank accounts" page, click the "Others" tab.
4. Select the Kraken card (it will show a blue dot when selected).
5. The "Connect your Kraken account" modal will appear with three fields:
6. • API Key: Paste the API Key you generated in Kraken.
   • API Secret: Paste the Private Key (API Secret) from Kraken.
   • Account Name: Enter a descriptive name to identify this account on your dashboard 
6. Click the "Link" button.
7. A loading screen will appear: "Linking your account". Wait until the process finishes. Do not close or reload the page (this may take a couple of minutes).
8. Once complete, your Kraken account will appear as a connected bank on your dashboard.

What Happens After Connecting Kraken?

Once your Kraken account has been successfully connected:

• Your transactions may take 24–48 hours to fully appear in the Companio Dashboard.
• Companio can retrieve transaction history for the last 90 days.
• All available assets in your Kraken portfolio, such as BTC, USD, and other supported assets, will be displayed.

After the initial synchronization is complete, your Kraken account information will be available in Companio for accounting purposes.
