What I Need to Know Before Starting Amazon FBA?

Before starting your Amazon FBA activity, there are a few important aspects to keep in mind regarding your accounting, taxes, and compliance responsibilities.

What Companio Covers

Companio handles the accounting for your Amazon FBA activity within your company’s jurisdiction. This includes recording your sales, purchases, and related transactions in your accounting system.

What Remains Your Responsibility

While Companio manages your accounting, certain areas fall outside the scope of our services:

  1. Customs Regulations and Import Declarations

You are responsible for complying with EU customs regulations when importing goods. This includes preparing and submitting customs declarations, providing required documentation (such as invoices and certificates of origin), and ensuring your goods meet EU standards and certifications.

  1. VAT Compliance in Other EU Countries

If your goods are stored in an Amazon warehouse located in another EU country, and these goods are shipped from that warehouse to customers within the same country, the company may be required to obtain a local VAT number. For example, if the goods are stored in a warehouse in Germany and shipped to German customers (non-business individuals), the company may need to register for VAT in Germany.

Companio does not handle VAT registration or filings outside your home jurisdiction. For these services, we recommend working with AVASK, a trusted VAT partner for Amazon sellers.

Additional Recommendations

  • We recommend that you review Amazon’s FBA fees and costs in their pricing page before starting your activity, as they can affect your profitability.
  • Make sure to keep copies of all customs and VAT-related documentation, as Companio may request them for accounting purposes.

If you have any doubts about your setup or need guidance on FBA accounting with Companio, feel free to contact our customer support team — we’ll be happy to help!
