Why Do I Receive Spam After Registering My Company?

You may receive spam emails in your inbox after registering your company.

Before we tell you why, keep in mind that we do not sell or share that data with third parties.

We understand that it can be annoying to receive spam. Still, even if you received this email before registering your company with the e-Business Register, Companio is not involved.

Why Is This Happening?

This happens because your company email and other registration data appear publicly in the e-Business Register once your company has been registered.

Hence, Estonia is considered one of the most transparent countries at the business level.

And this implies that other companies that want to send spam emails to Estonian businesses may access the e-Business Register to search their data.

Is It Illegal?

Although it may seem that it violates data protection regulations such as the GPDR, it is not illegal. The email to which spam is being sent is not a personal one, but a company one, and it is public. Therefore, this legislation is not applicable.

What Can I Do?

You can check the data of your company that has been published in the e-Business Register.

Also, you can change the email address in the e-Business Register to another where you can filter spam email. But keep in mind that you will also receive important information from the registry, the tax office, or us, so you will also have to check this email account.
